PROTESTER'S IN COMMACK CALL TO RE-OPEN LONG ISLAND AMID COVID-19
Earlier today on Friday, May 1st 2020, located at the Intersection in Commack between Veterans Highway and Jericho Turnpike gathered a large crowd of protestors.
It was estimated that anywhere from 100 to over 300 protestors from Long Island gathered along the side of the road.
Commack is withing the Town of Smithtown, located in Suffolk County. Nearby towns to Commack are Kings Park, North Port, Hauppauge, Smithtown, and Dix Hills.
Commack protestors had a unified message and it was their collective desire for NY Governor Cuomo to reopen business in New York State.
Right now, it has been declared that New York is on pause until May 15th which is 2 weeks from today. Although the protestor in Commack, NY are demanding to end the pause and reopen instantly.
NY Governor Cuomo has not made a decision on if he will continue the quarantine once we arrive at the date May 15th or may go another 2 weeks or longer. It is clear he has been made no exact decision to when he may reopen Long Island Business, and this is causing a lot of anxiety for the people of Commack.
It was announced today by NYS Governor Andrew Cuomo that schools in New York from Kindergarten to Grade 12 will remain closed for the rest of the school year. This also will apply to many New York colleges and universities.
Long Island School Closing is official declared for the rest of the school year. Summer school may be an option but if it is it will most likely be done remotely. Commack protestors do not want schools to close, they want them to reopen!

Looking at the protest in Commack today you can see many American Flags, Pick It Signs, “Don’t Tread on Me” Flags, Trump 2020 Flags, Bibles, Poster Boards and more. Both sides of the isle are expressing their complaints about the lock down but this protest today appeared to have a lot of supporters of President Donald Trump.
Many of the Commack protestors today were not wearing masks potentially as a symbolic act of defiance to the government of NYS.
In addition to not obeying the orders to wear face masks many of the Commack protestors were also not practicing social distancing. Meaning that people were not keeping a 6 foot distance from one another.
The demographics of the large crowd of protestors in Commack today had a very broad range. From a glance it appeared there was an equal ratio between men and women. The adults protesting in Commack appeared to be mostly in the age range between 30 years old to their mid-50s.
Surprising along with the adult protestors was children, toddlers, and babies. We can only assume that these kids were there accompanied by with the parents or guardians. We saw with our own eyes there was some Long Island parents who brought their babies and toddlers in strollers to protest in Commack New York today.
This protest in Commack truly brought out the entire family as we also saw Long Island Pets which included dogs, among others.
This time and date last year no one would have been able to predict the crazy world we are living in today. This bizarre world is being repetitively messaged to us as the “new normal” which is very ironic when you think about it.
Pressure is mounting on Long Island New York as local’s are growing more and more frustrated with the current unfortunate quarantine and closing of non-essential businesses.
Everyone on Long Island would agree that they do not want to accept this new normal and simply want things to go back to normal. When we say normal we mean before the quarantine because lets face it things have not been so normal if you pay attention to your Long Island News.
Although we all share a human urge to want things to go back to normal they are still a good number of people on Long Island who believe we need to listen to NY Governor Cuomo and follow his instructions amid the COVID-19 Pandemic.
Of course, this protest in Commack is not an isolated incident as there has been many other protests in other Long Island Towns from Valley Stream, Carle Place, and most likely more in the near future.
There has also been protests calling to reopen across the country for example in the state of Michigan, New Jersey to even California. As people’s anxiety and stress continue to rise protests like these will only continue to multiple.
