What is the difference between Long Island's Northshore and Southshore?

The Long Island Expressway cuts through the center of most of Suffolk and all of Nassau County. To the south of the L.I.E is the Southshore and North of the expressway is considered the Northshore. Looking at a map of Long Island you will see in Nassau County, NY in the West. Reaching the end of Long Island in it's most Eastern town called Montauk.

From a birds eye view the North or Northshore of Long Island is touching the Long Island Sound. If you took a Port Jefferson Ferry it Bridgeport, Connecticut is about 19 miles away. The Southshore, the southern portion of Long Island is famous for the Amityville Horror House, Jones Beach, Fire Island, The Marinas and a hot destination during the Summer. South of the Jones Beach is the Atlantic Ocean that is adjacent to the East Coast States of America.
