About East Moriches
The quaint hamlet of East Moriches is located on waters of Moriches Bay. It was named after Meritces, the Native American who owned land on Moriches Neck. The early settlers traded products like muskets and gunpowder.
The waterfront area was developed to accommodate the businesses' primary source of transportation. The town radio station provided sailors with signals to ships at sea. They switched over to radio programs in the evenings at the request of the townspeople.
Duck farming was a thriving business in the area with for decades. Long Island ducks are well-known for their delicious skin texture and meat. They are still a favorite of celebrity chefs. The feathers were sold to companies who make down clothing for filling.
East Moriches is easily accessible to the Long Island Rail Road's Montauk branch Speonk station. The town is surrounded by Moriches Bay, Manorville, Center Moriches, and Eastport, and is only 35 minutes by car to the Hamptons. Sunrise and Montauk Highways are the main thoroughfares. Main Road is aptly named too.
Keeping with tradition in East Moriches history, one of the area's favorite pastimes takes place on the water. Fish On Fishing of East Moriches offers charters. They offer full and half day fishing charters on their 40' sport fishing boat. Scuba diving wreck and overnight canyon trips are also available. Their 65' party fishing boat can hold 90 passengers. All of the fishing gear is provided on both vessels. The captain assists anglers in catching everything from fluke to tuna to sharks.
The community of East Moriches is affectionately called EMO. There is a sense of hospitable charm from the old-fashioned storefronts to the beachfront restaurants. It is a neighborhood with heart and history. The East Moriches Union Free School District has an elementary school and a middle school. The East Moriches Booster Club raises a lot of money to fund school sports teams and clubs. For high school, students can choose Westhampton Beach High School, Center Moriches High School or Eastport-South Manor High School.
There are some quaint boutiques and great restaurants in East Moriches. The Bailstone Flower Shop has been providing East Moriches with beautiful bouquets and floral arrangements since 1950. Tony's Sushi and Steakhouse Restaurant serves delicious Pan-Asian offerings, including Chinese, Japanese and Thai options. Have an entertaining meal in their Hibachi room. Their party menus make it easy to host a memorable event.
The Atlantic Cove Marina is referred to as the Crown Jewel of Brookhaven. They have been in business since 1935. The marina features boat launching ramps, a fueling station, a pump-out station, a bait shop, a canvas shop, boat repair services, and a restaurant. There are 140 boat slips that can accommodate vessels up to 60 feet in length. Each slip comes with its own supply of electricity and water and is under video surveillance. Coral Tapas and Wine Bar was named one of Newsday's Top 100 Restaurants in 2018.

East Moriches was on the news around the globe on July 17, 1996. TWA Flight 800 exploded 8 miles off their coast and fell into the Atlantic Ocean. Their U.S. Coast Guard Station was used by emergency responders as a staging area. A helipad was constructed at the station. The media had their crews there for breaking news and updates. The cause of the explosion, which killed all 230 passengers and crew on board, was determined to be a short circuit which caused the contents of the center-wing fuel tank to explode; however, many alternative theories exist. There are some wild conspiracy theories still circling today.
