The Town of East Hampton is situated in southeastern Suffolk County on Long Island, New York. East Hampton is the easternmost town in New York State with a population of 21,457 according to the United States 2010 Census. The town sprawls through the village of East Hampton, hamlets of Montauk, Amagansett, Wainscott, Springs, and parts of Sag Harbor. A picturesque town to reside in, East Hampton is located on a peninsula surrounded the Atlantic Ocean. Notable waterfronts nearby also include Block Island Sound, Gardiners Bay, Napeague Bay, and Fort Pond Bay. The town expands upon 70 square miles and stretches 25 miles from Wainscott to Montauk Point. The Town of East Hampton has an oceanic climate, meaning it is slightly more relaxed than other urban areas like New York City.

History:

The East Hampton area has been populated for thousands of years by different cultures like indigenous people. During the time of European contact, East Hampton was inhabited by Pequot people. When the late-17th century came around, Chief Wyandanch of the Montaukett collaborated with English colonists for the sale of the land in the East Hampton area. Fast forward to the 1600s, East Hampton became the first English settlement in New York state in 1648 and was initially named Maidstone after Maidstone Kent, England.
