As Of Today August 24th, Long Island Gyms Are Now Open After An Extended Closure Period Due To The COVID-19 Pandemic.
This date has been long awaited by both gym owners and patrons alike, as they have had their fitness and health routines disrupted over the course of the Pandemic.
After removing them from Phase 4 of reopening, NY Governor Cuomo is finally letting gyms open at 33% capacity and requiring gym go-ers to wear masks while in the facility. The mask mandate was met with much public backlash, resulting in gym owners begging members to not complain about the masks as there is “nothing they can do”, despite agreeing about members' stance on masks while exercising.
Long Island Gym members from throughout all of Long Island Towns are stating that they do not want to wear masks while working out, as it will give them difficulty breathing and cause them to overheat while doing intensive weight lifting or cardio exercises.
The most dedicated gym go-ers are now purchasing breathable masks specifically for exercising.
It's important to realize the economic impacts of only allowing 33% of the occupancy to be used by Long Island Gym Members.
If gyms do not comply with the mask mandate they will be faced with heavy fines and run the risk of being shut down.
However, if gym go-ers elect to not go to the gym because of the mask mandate, the gym will see a massive loss of membership revenue in the short term until the masks are gone.
Many gyms are expected to go out of business in the coming months due to the ripple effect of the extended closure. Time will tell which Long Island gyms are able to make it out of this rocky reopening period.
